“I love seeing the relief that comes when someone realizes they don't have to figure everything out alone.”

Hi, I’m Catherine,

I'm an End-of-Life Practitioner, Death Doula, Elder Companion, licensed Funeral Director, funeral pre-planner, and founder of Beyond Legacy. While those titles describe what I do, they don't really explain why I do it.

At the heart of it all, I simply love people.

I love sitting with families during difficult seasons. I love creating space for conversations that most people avoid. I love helping people find peace in the middle of uncertainty. And I love seeing the relief that comes when someone realizes they don't have to figure everything out alone.

How My Journey Began…

Over the last 20 years, I've had the privilege of serving my community through end-of-life care, funeral service, and mission work. My journey into this profession actually began while working on an ambulance. It was there that I first realized how much a calm presence, a listening ear, and genuine compassion could impact families during some of the hardest moments of their lives.

My husband and I have experienced that peace ourselves.

We made our own funeral arrangements and purchased our cemetery plots because we wanted our children to have the freedom to simply grieve when our time comes.

We don't want them worrying about finances or wondering what we would have wanted. We want them to be present with one another, celebrate our lives, and know they're carrying out wishes we thoughtfully made long before they were ever needed.

That's why I do what I do.

I truly believe that planning ahead isn't morbid.

It's one of the greatest acts of love we can give the people we care about.

That experience changed me.

Since then, I've worked in funeral service, forensic care, willed-body donation programs, and alongside countless individuals and families preparing for or walking through the end of life.

Those experiences have given me a unique perspective on what happens after someone dies, but even more importantly, they've shown me what families need long before that day ever comes.

I've learned that most people aren't afraid of death itself.

They're afraid of not knowing what to expect.

They're afraid of leaving their loved ones with difficult decisions.

They're afraid of talking about something that everyone experiences but almost no one feels comfortable discussing.

How Beyond Legacy Came into My Life…

I was attending a Women's Empowerment Leadership training through Rotary where we were challenged to declare something bold that we wanted to accomplish. Without knowing exactly what it would look like, I stood up and said, “I am going to start a nonprofit!”

The funny thing was... I had no idea what that nonprofit would be.

But by the time I woke up the next morning, I couldn't stop thinking about it. The vision for Beyond Legacy had become incredibly clear. I could see exactly what it needed to be: a place where people could learn, ask questions, have honest conversations, and prepare for the future without fear or judgment.

Within two days, I had a full presentation ready to share with mentors who had founded successful nonprofits themselves. They believed in the vision immediately.

And from there, everything seemed to fall into place. The right people showed up. The right doors opened. The momentum continued to build.

Today, Beyond Legacy exists because I believe our communities deserve a healthier relationship with death. Not because we want to dwell on it, but because talking about it helps us live more intentionally.

Today, Beyond Legacy exists because…

I believe our communities deserve a healthier relationship with death.

Not because we want to dwell on it—but because talking about it helps us live more intentionally.

My hope is that Beyond Legacy becomes a place where people discover that these conversations don't have to be scary. They can actually be empowering. They can bring families closer together. They can provide clarity instead of confusion and peace instead of uncertainty.

If you’ve found your way here…

If you've found your way here, maybe you're planning ahead. Maybe you're caring for someone you love. Maybe you've experienced loss. Or maybe you're simply curious about conversations that most people avoid.

Whatever brought you here, I'm so glad you're here.

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about me and the heart behind Beyond Legacy.

I hope our paths cross someday.

Until then, remember this: Talking about death doesn't take away from life. In many ways, it teaches us how to live it more fully.

—Catherine
